The benefits of using sailing in team development are well
demonstrated and many say that it is one of the most effective
ways of creating great teamwork. There is much more to team
development afloat than simply “going for a sail”.
That is why the Harbour Challenge has been developed and successfully
delivered to organisations ranging from Aventis to SONY. Sailing
IS for anyone – the dozens of happy teams that have
left our yachts is evidence of that! |

How
it works
The Harbour Challenge is a tried and tested strategy
that focuses upon developing effective teamwork and
leadership in a testing but highly rewarding environment.
Teams enjoy a half day on board a racing yacht under
the guidance of an experienced skipper. Crews begin
the event by developing a strategy that will enable
them to win points across three key areas:
1.
By sailing past chosen navigation marks in the Harbour
area
2. By rotating key roles on board the yacht
3. By demonstrating agreed behaviours, effective teamwork
and leadership
The
crew’s strategy will be based on wind speed and
direction, current and strengths of the team. Successful
teams plan meticulously, train to specific objectives,
communicate clearly before and during the challenge
but adapt quickly to the changing environment of the
Harbour.
Success
however, is ultimately linked to behaviour and the key
to success is understanding that there is a clear link
between performance and culture - hierarchies must be
put to one side and teams must learn that every member
of the team has a specific and valuable strength that
if identified early can lead to victory!
Sydney
Harbour
Sydney Harbour plays host to the start of the most famous
and toughest offshore yachting race in the world, The
Rolex Sydney to Hobart. With the city situated on the
shore of the largest natural harbour in the world you
are within minutes of boarding your yachts. The protection
of North and South Head creates the perfect sailing
area for your corporate sailing events. Whilst sailing
you will have an opportunity to take in the spectacular
views that Sydney Harbour has to offer. Not to mention
the chance to drop anchor in one of the many bays to
cool off with a swim over your lunch time stop.
